Have you found that, even if you've been to therapy before, there are things from your past you just can't shake? Are there beliefs or fears that aren't serving you, but still persist in your life? Troubles with body image, self-esteem, or punishing your body through too much or too little food? Feeling like things go wrong in your life in the same way over and over again?
Through the use of EMDR, DBT, and other complementary techniques, I help people overcome challenges like these, and so much more. I have found that standard "talk therapy" may help people think about things differently or make better choices in their lives, but those people often don't feel any better than before. My clients report genuinely feeling better, that their lives are changed through no longer feeling the same pain that haunted them before. Diagnoses I have successfully treated include PTSD, anxiety disorders, OCD, eating disorders, and depression, to name a few.
I work best with people who actively want to make changes in their lives, and are committed to therapy. I am not a good match for people who only want a place to talk about what's bothering them without working together on getting past those problems. My goal is for all of my clients to graduate from therapy because they are doing so well on their own and no longer need my support on a regular basis.
I support the principles of intuitive eating and HAES. I am a queer woman, and often work with people who are LGBTQIA+, ethically nonmonogamous, and/or living in ways others may deem "unconventional." As a social worker, social justice is important to me, and I strive to be culturally aware and informed.
I offer three different kinds of therapy, depending on what best fits the person's needs.
1) Outpatient therapy. This is what people often think of for therapy, where we would typically meet for an hour a week until goals are met and the person feels ready to graduate.
2) Adjunct EMDR therapy. This is in addition to someone's work with their regular therapist. I am able to provide EMDR to supplement the therapy the person is already receiving, if their therapist does not offer EMDR and the person believes they would benefit from it.
3) EMDR intensives. This is a process that allows a person to get results quickly through doing focused, specially-designed therapy in a limited span of time. For more information on intensives, see the EMDR intensives page on our website.
